.KEY MESSAGES...
* Dry conditions will continue through the end of the week for
southern Nevada, northwest Arizona, and southeast California.
* Today will be the coolest day of the week, with temperatures
gradually rebounding throughout the week.
&&
.DISCUSSION...through next weekend.
As the trough responsible for yesterday`s winds lifts into the
Northern Rockies a shortwave will slip in behind it, reinforcing the
general troughiness across the Southwestern US. As a result of
this synoptic setup, we will continue to find ourselves under dry
southwesterly flow aloft with dry conditions expected to continue
through the end of the week. While we will continue to see
afternoon relative humidity values bottom out in the single digits
and lower teens, winds will not be as strong, which will help to
mitigate fire danger.
Today`s high temperatures across the region will be around 10+
degrees cooler than normal. Temperatures will gradually climb
back up to near normal by mid week as 500 mb heights increase
thanks to a ridge trying to push into the area. Warmer than normal
temperatures will return to the region during the second half of
the week, resulting in increasing HeatRisk as we head into the
weekend. Widespread Moderate (Level 2 of 4) HeatRisk is expected
across southern Nevada, southeastern California, and northwestern
Arizona over the weekend. This level of heat will impact anyone
without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration as well as
heat sensitive individuals and those that have not acclimated to
these temperatures.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...The
unseasonable cold front will be the main concern. Winds should shift
to northerly at the terminal around midnight with gusts 20 to 25
knots, subsiding around sunrise. The northerly winds have raised a
cloud of dust, which will likely cause slantwise visibility
reduction overnight. Winds should be much lighter by midday, and
could slowly veer all the way around to southeast in the afternoon
before going back to the typical nighttime south southwest drainage
wind. No operationally significant cloud cover, but lofted dust and
wildfire smoke could cause murky skies.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Strong winds will be the
main concern early tonight, decreasing toward morning. An
unseasonably strong cold front was pushing south, nearing Interstate
15 around midnight and making it through nearly all of the Mojave
Desert by sunrise. Behind the front, northerly winds were gusting 30
to 40 knots, with a decreasing trend expected toward sunrise. These
winds had also raised a cloud of dust, which will reduce visibility
overnight. Ahead of the front, southwesterly winds were gusting 25
to 35 knots, with westerly gusts over 40 knots in the Barstow area.
As the front passes, these winds will veer and decrease. Much
lighter winds are expected areawide by Sunday afternoon, with gusts
20 knots or less. No operationally significant cloud cover, but
expect reduced visibility, especially slantwise, from lofted dust
and wildfire smoke.
&&
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
